Why this exists

Sarah had been a licensed mortician in Ohio for three years. When she got a job offer in Minnesota, she had no idea whether $58,000 was a good offer or a lowball. She accepted it.

Six months later, she found out the person who left the role had been making $72,000. The BLS median for Minnesota morticians is $76,490.

She'd left $14,000–$18,000 on the table because she didn't know her market.

This toolkit is what Sarah needed before that conversation.

Questions

What format are the files?

The salary data comes as both Excel (.xlsx) and CSV. The negotiation toolkit and state comparison report are PDF. After checkout goes live, all files download immediately after purchase.

Where does the data come from?

Salary data is from BLS OEWS May 2024 (SOC 39-4031) — the same source used by HR departments and compensation consultants. Cost of living index is from MERIC 2024 Annual Average. All sources are cited in the spreadsheet.

Is this different from what's on the free articles?

The free articles cover highlights — top/bottom states, key comparisons. The toolkit has the complete dataset (every state, every percentile, COL-adjusted), plus the negotiation scripts and email templates that aren't published anywhere on the site.

What if I want a refund?

After checkout goes live, email us within 7 days of purchase for a full refund, no questions asked.

Will this be updated?

Yes — when BLS releases new OEWS data (typically each spring), we update the spreadsheet. Purchasers get the updated version at no additional cost.
